Teaching Table
Set out your lesson
Build on a speaker’s idea with a question, evidence and a relevant return to topic.
Follow this model in an accessible mode before attempting independent work. Graph ordering is not learner mastery; revisit prerequisites if the guided task still needs full modeling.
Check readiness rather than assuming source graph order establishes attainment.
Use a two-person role-play with fictional speakers. A written response may replace spoken interaction but is not evidence of live turn-taking. Open Show (S), then Guided (G), then Try (T). Hide earlier work and keys before Try. Use only the supplied stage material; do not invent additional cards. Pause or split the session if needed.
Materials are ready in each step. Use them on screen or print just the current step. Put teaching examples aside before the learner tries.
What this lesson covers and its limits
These are bounded opportunities, not learner attainment. Partial and blocked source requirements remain so.
- partial: Pose and respond to specific questions in discussions, making comments that contribute to the discussion and elaborate on the remarks of others
Role-play opportunity only; sustained real group discussion and listening remain conditional.
- partial: Ask follow-up questions that build on another speaker's comment
Role-play opportunity only; sustained real group discussion and listening remain conditional.
- partial: Respond to a classmate's idea by adding supporting evidence or a related example
Role-play opportunity only; sustained real group discussion and listening remain conditional.
- partial: Redirect a discussion by posing a question that connects to the main topic
Role-play opportunity only; sustained real group discussion and listening remain conditional.
- partial: In a class discussion, does {{name}} ask questions that move the conversation forward and add comments that build on what others have said rather than just repeating the same ideas?
Role-play opportunity only; sustained real group discussion and listening remain conditional.
