Say out loud what is going to be written; compose sentences orally before writing them down as preparation for independent writing

Before writing, say the whole idea aloud. Repeating the sentence helps hold the words in memory before putting them on paper.
Spend 10–15 minutes giving simple prompts, having the child compose and rehearse a complete sentence aloud twice, then write it.
