Teaching approaches
Gakuva’s recommended starting approach is selected. You can still compare every option.
1 approach
Pictures show us part of the story, and print carries the words. We start at the top, read each line from left to right, then move down to the next line.
Spend 5–10 minutes exploring how a book and its print work. Find the front cover and title, open to a page, point to the first word at the top-left, slide a finger under the print from left to right, then move down from top to bottom and turn to the next page.

Keep a record of your learning
Save photos, notes, and attendance. Export a proof packet for compliance or portfolio reviews.
Practice this concept
A short Gakuva activity you can use without signing in.
Understanding print practice
Find where reading starts, track print across lines, match print to its message, and turn book pages forward in order.
Practice answers and completion are not saved. Physical book handling still needs an adult check.
