1 approach
Rote counting is the number word sequence. We can start at 0 or 1, keep going to 100, count backward from 20, and start in the middle—like 47—without going back to the beginning.
Spend about 10–15 minutes on three short counting passes: 1 to 100, backward from 20, and start-from-a-given-number.

Check understanding
- Recite the number sequence 1–100 without skipping or repeating
- Count backward from 20 to 0
- Count forward starting from a number other than 1 (e.g. 'start at 23')
“Can your child count out loud all the way from 0 to 100 — and if you say "start from 47", can they carry on from there without going back to the beginning?”
