Responding to Writing Feedback
With teacher guidance, re-read own writing aloud to check it sounds right; listen and respond to questions and suggestions from teacher or peers to add detail, clarify meaning, and strengthen writing — this is the scaffolded beginning of writing self-evaluation, not an independent skill

Teaching approaches
Gakuva’s recommended starting approach is selected. You can still compare every option.
1 approach
Responding to Writing Feedback means listening to a reader and making your meaning clearer. You choose the words; I can help you read them. We will check whether a word is missing or a reader needs more information. A clear sentence is not wrong just because we could add detail. You decide what you want to say, and I will ask one useful question.
Use the child’s own written sentence, not an adult sentence to copy. If none is available, ask: Imagine an animal doing something. What happens? Let the child compose and write one sentence. Spend up to 10 minutes rereading and making one useful written change. Stop after rereading the revision; return later if needed.

Check understanding
- Reread own writing and spot a missing word or unclear sentence
- Add a detail in response to a question (e.g. 'Can you tell me more about...?')
- Make at least one improvement to a piece based on feedback
“When your child's teacher asks them to read their own writing aloud and then asks "does that bit make sense?", can your child listen to the feedback and make a simple change to improve it?”
